A LysR Family Transcriptional Regulator Modulates Burkholderia cenocepacia Biofilm Formation and Protease Production

Kai Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated a new downstream regulator, Bcal3178, which controls biofilm formation and protease production in Burkholderia cenocepacia through modulation by AHL and BDSF QS systems. Bcal3178 regulates target gene expression by directly binding to promoter DNA regions, and it is directly controlled by the AHL system regulator CepR. These results unveil a novel molecular mechanism by which QS systems regulate target gene expression and biological functions in B. cenocepacia.
