Gut microbiota in human metabolic health and disease

Yong Fan et al.

Summary: The intestinal microbiota plays a significant role in human metabolic health, potentially contributing to the development of common metabolic disorders when dysregulated. Current research is shifting towards cause-and-effect studies and utilizing high-throughput human multi-omics data to identify potential molecular mechanisms behind these associations.

The Fecal Microbiota Is Already Altered in Normoglycemic Individuals Who Go on to Have Type 2 Diabetes

Li Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that changes in gut microbiota of healthy individuals who later developed T2D occurred when they were still normoglycemic. These alterations in fecal microbiota could offer insights into predicting T2D and provide a new perspective on the development of the disease.

Gut Microbiota and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Association, Mechanism, and Translational Applications

Lili Zhang et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in type 2 diabetes by regulating inflammation, immunity, and metabolism, with molecules like short-chain fatty acids, secondary bile acids, and lipopolysaccharide being key factors. Studies have shown that fecal microbiota transplantation and probiotic capsules are useful strategies in preventing diabetes.

The gut microbiome in microscopic polyangiitis with kidney involvement: common and unique alterations, clinical association and values for disease diagnosis and outcome prediction

Binfeng Yu et al.

Summary: Microbial profiling in MPA patients with kidney involvement revealed alterations in gut microbiota, characterized by increased abundance of certain genera and decreased abundance of short-chain fatty acid-producing genera. Machine-learning methods combined with gut microbiome analysis showed potential for diagnosing MPA and predicting disease activity.

Alteration of gut microbial profile in patients with diabetic nephropathy

Xi Du et al.

Summary: Investigations have shown that 30-40% of patients with diabetes develop diabetic nephropathy (DN). The gut microbiome has become a lively field of research in diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease. This study analyzed the gut microbial profiles in DN patients and healthy controls, revealing differences in microbial profiles based on disease stages, gender, and BMI. The results demonstrated dysbiosis and a decrease in gut bacterial richness and diversity in DN patients compared to healthy controls. Additionally, certain genera identified in the study may serve as potential microbial biomarkers for DN.
