Carbapenem Resistance-Encodinc and Virulence-Encoding Conjugative Plasmids in Klebsiella pneumoniae

Xuemei Yang et al.

Summary: This review examines the key evolutionary routes of plasmids involved in disseminating exogenous resistance and hypervirulence-encoding genetic elements in Klebsiella pneumoniae. It identifies diverse but convergent paths that led to the emergence of conjugative plasmids encoding both carbapenem resistance and hypervirulence. An important evolutionary feature is the presence of transposable elements enabling frequent genetic transposition, fusion, and enhanced adaptation to bacterial hosts. Identification of key molecular markers on these plasmids improves tracking and control of life-threatening strains of K. pneumoniae.

Distribution of genes encoding 16S rRNA methyltransferase in plazomicin-nonsusceptible carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales in Brazil

Larissa Bail et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of 16S-RMTases in plazomicin nonsusceptible CPE collected in different Brazilian hospitals, and found that the majority of isolates carried 16S-RMTase genes, especially rmtB1. The coexistence of 16S-RMTase and CPE may pose challenges in treatment options and contribute to antibiotic resistance in Brazil.

Carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria in aquatic environments: a review

Zineb Cherak et al.

Summary: Carbapenem resistance in Gram-negative bacteria is a major public health challenge, with transmission mainly occurring through water environments. Aquatic environments serve as a significant medium for antibiotic gene transfer, playing a crucial role in the spread of drug resistance in the environment and community.
