Probing material absorption and optical nonlinearity of integrated photonic materials

Maodong Gao et al.

Summary: This study reports measurements of material-limited Q factors in several photonic material platforms and reveals the relationship between nonlinear characteristics and ultimate Q in different materials. This is significant for guiding microresonator design and material development, as well as determining performance limits in future photonic integrated systems.

High-yield, wafer-scale fabrication of ultralow-loss, dispersion-engineered silicon nitride photonic circuits

Junqiu Liu et al.

Summary: Recent advances in Si3N4 photonics have shown that ultralow-loss microresonators with Q factors exceeding 10^6 can be achieved, but current fabrication techniques are not suitable for certain applications. A new fabrication technology has been developed to produce microresonators with Q factors above 30 million and 1 dB/m optical losses, paving the way for improved performance and capabilities of integrated photonics.
