Antidiarrheal, Antimicrobial, and Antioxidant Properties of the Aqueous Extract of Tunisian Persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) Fruits

Nourhene Dhawefi et al.

Summary: Medicinal plants, like Diospyros kaki fruit aqueous extract, possess antioxidant and antibacterial properties that can protect against gastrointestinal disorders such as castor oil-induced diarrhea. The presence of phenolic compounds, especially quinic acid, contribute to its therapeutic effects by regulating oxidative stress. The administration of DKFAE showed dose-dependent reduction in gastrointestinal transit and protection against diarrhea and intestinal fluid accumulation, suggesting its potential as a natural remedy for acute diarrhea.

Persimmon-derived tannin ameliorates the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis in a murine model through inhibition of the inflammatory response and alteration of microbiota

Masahiro Kitabatake et al.

Summary: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease induced by dysregulation of immune response in the intestinal mucosa. Studies have shown that persimmon-derived tannin can ameliorate colon inflammation in UC by altering the microbiota composition and immune response.
