Treatment with Bixin-Loaded Polymeric Nanoparticles Prevents Cigarette Smoke-Induced Acute Lung Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in Mice

Summary: This study aimed to develop nanoparticles of bixin extracted from annatto seeds for the treatment of acute lung inflammation induced by cigarette smoke exposure. Initial tests in mice showed that oral treatment with npBX prevented increases in superoxide anion and total bronchoalveolar lavage leukocyte levels. These results support npBX as a promising therapeutic tool for lung diseases.
