Radical Scavenging Mechanisms of Phenolic Compounds: A Quantitative Structure-Property Relationship (QSPR) Study

Melanie Platzer et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the antioxidant properties of secondary plant metabolites and their impact on the outcome of the oxygen radical absorbance capacity assay. The number of hydroxyl groups was found to have a greater influence on antioxidant activity, while the Bors criteria had a smaller impact. Different antioxidant assays may be based on distinct reaction mechanisms.

High-performance thin layer chromatography-based phytochemical and bioactivity characterisation of anticancer endophytic fungal extracts derived from marine plants

Siong Meng Lim et al.

Summary: This study assessed the anticancer potential of ethyl acetate endophytic fungal extracts derived from marine plants along Morib Beach in Malaysia. The results indicated that MBS 3.2 was the most potent extract against HCT116, possibly due to its high polyphenolic content and antioxidant potential. Further mechanistic studies are warranted based on the current findings.

Deep learning strategies for active secondary metabolites biosynthesis from fungi: Harnessing artificial manipulation and application

Hassan Mohamed et al.

Summary: Fungi, as one of the most natural inhabitants of diverse environments, have the ability to produce active molecules, but often only in limited amounts by their native hosts. New biotechnological procedures, such as co-cultivation and various fermentation strategies, can enhance fungal biomass and increase valuable active products. However, many endophytic fungi appear to be uncultivable, and for those that can be cultivated, their metabolic potential is largely invisible due to regulatory silencing of biosynthetic genes.
