Effect of Long-Distance Running on Inter-segment Foot Kinematics and Ground Reaction Forces: A Preliminary Study

Jialin Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the kinematic and ground reaction force alterations induced within the foot following a 5 and 10 km run. The findings showed that 5 km of running would induce excessive foot motion while 10 km of running may gradually change the foot posture and lead to reduced propulsive forces. This could potentially increase the risks of running-related injuries.

Human plantar fascial dimensions and shear wave velocity change in vivo as a function of ankle and metatarsophalangeal joint positions

Hiroto Shiotani et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of ankle and MTP joint positions on the dimensions and SWV of the plantar fascia, finding that the changes in PF were related to joint angle positions, which can affect foot arch elasticity during human locomotion.

The extensibility of the plantar fascia influences the windlass mechanism during human running

Lauren Welte et al.

Summary: The human foot arch is both compliant and stiff during ground contact and push-off, thanks to the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia's role in shaping the arch and storing/releasing elastic energy is crucial, despite its stretching and shortening during gait.

The influence of soft tissue artifacts on multi-segment foot kinematics

Wouter Schallig et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify soft tissue artifacts (STAs) in foot markers and their impact on multi-segment foot kinematics. The findings showed that STAs introduce clinically relevant errors in multi-segment foot kinematics and identified marker locations most affected by STAs, suggesting a need for reconsideration in their use within multi-segment foot models.

Subgroups of Foot-Ankle Movement Patterns Can Influence the Responsiveness to a Foot-Core Exercise Program: A Hierarchical Cluster Analysis

Ricky Watari et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify homogenous subgroups of foot-ankle kinematic patterns among recreational runners and investigate the influence of initial movement patterns on the mechanical responses to a foot-core exercise intervention program. Two clusters of foot-ankle running patterns were identified, and after an 8-week foot-core exercise intervention, changes were mainly observed in cluster 1 in the transverse plane.
