Preparing printable bacterial cellulose based gelatin gel to promote in vivo bone regeneration

Xucai Wang et al.

Summary: Treatment of neat BC with TEMPO-mediated oxidation and maleic acid can release individual fibrils for scaffold fabrication, with MA-BC showing enhanced rheological properties and compression modulus when hybridized with gelatin for 3D printing. MA-BC exhibits a more significant ability to express osteogenic marker genes and form mineralized nodules in vitro. In vivo, MA-BC-based gelatin scaffolds are better at stimulating bone regeneration, with higher bone mineral density and trabecular thickness compared to TO-BC-based gelatin scaffolds.
