Optimization of parameters for biological pre-treatment route for the production of nanocellulose from sugarcane bagasse

Shradha Ramesh et al.

Summary: Nanocellulose production from biomass, especially sugarcane bagasse, has attracted great interest due to its low cost, renewability, and abundance. In this study, the fungal strain Phanerochaete chrysosporium was used to remove lignin from bagasse, and the effect of fungal treatment on different sizes and incubation days was investigated. Additionally, the impact of mild chemical pre-treatment before fungal treatment was examined. Various tests and analyses were conducted to evaluate the structural differences, cellulose and lignin content, thermal properties, and size reduction of the bagasse residues. After optimization, nanocellulose with an average particle size of 401 nm and a yield of approximately 34% was obtained.

Properties of organic and inorganic filler hybridization on Timoho Fiber-reinforced polyester polymer composites

Femiana Gapsari et al.

Summary: The study focused on improving the performance of TF-reinforced polyester composites by adding organic and inorganic fillers. It was found that aluminum powder (AP) was more effective in increasing density than egg shell powder (ESP), and the tensile and impact strength of the composite increased with higher TF volume. However, the addition of ESP and AP fillers caused changes in mechanical characteristics, increasing elasticity modulus and toughness while decreasing tensile strength. Additionally, SEM observation supported the analysis of TF-polyester composite mechanical characteristics.

Influence of calcium carbonate fillers on pine fiber reinforced polyester composites

Femiana Gapsari et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the influence of calcium carbonate filler loadings on the properties of pine fiber reinforced polyester composites. The results showed that the fillers improved the physical, mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of the composites. The fillers enhanced the strength, hardness, and thermal resistance of the composites through filling air gaps and enhancing interfacial bonding.

Preparation of nanocellulose in high yield via chemi-mechanical synergy

Jiajia Wang et al.

Summary: A time-saving and low-cost chemi-mechanical method was proposed to prepare cellulose nanocrystals and cellulose nanofibers with high yield. The diameter and length distribution of the obtained nanocellulose were 16-45 nm and 150-600 nm, respectively. The approach offers a promising strategy for high yield of nanocellulose due to its easy operation and low pollution.
