Physicochemical characterization of microcapsules containing cold pressed black cumin seed oils (Nigella sativa L.) as an alternative nutrient source in a functional diet

Najwa Yanya Santiworakun et al.

Summary: Black cumin seed oil was successfully microencapsulated using spray drying with high encapsulation efficiency. The combination of inulin and whey protein showed promising results with a microencapsulation efficiency of 86.12% and excellent spherical shape of the microcapsules. The microencapsulated powders exhibited improved wettability, solubility, and thymoquinone content compared to those prepared with gum arabic alone.

Cytotoxicity, early safety screening, and antimicrobial potential of minor oxime constituents of essential oils and aromatic extracts

Alicja Karolina Surowiak et al.

Summary: In this study, the antimicrobial activity of 53 low molecular oximes and their corresponding carbonyl compounds against various microbial strains were evaluated. Alpha-isomethylionone oxime was found to be the most effective against Enterococcus hirae. Evaluation of selected compounds such as 2-phenylpropionaldehyde, cis-jasmone oxime, and trans-cinnamaldehyde showed promising results against Aspergillus brasiliensis. ADME-Tox and MTS assays demonstrated the safety and potential application of these compounds as antibacterial agents without toxicity to human cells.
