Stability Indices to Deciphering the Genotype-by-Environment Interaction (GEI) Effect: An Applicable Review for Use in Plant Breeding Programs

Alireza Pour-Aboughadareh et al.

Summary: The interaction between genotypes and environments is crucial in plant breeding programs. A variety of models and mathematical methods have been developed to understand this genotype-by-environment interaction (GEI) in multi-environmental trials (METs), also known as stability analyses. However, the contribution of improved management in yield increase has hidden the true size of GEI, which can be revealed by comparing new and old varieties in a single experiment. Researchers need to dissect the usefulness of these methods to calculate stability indices and select superior genotypes.

Integrating univariate and multivariate statistical models to investigate genotype x environment interaction in durum wheat

Reza Mohammadi et al.

Summary: This study focused on analyzing genotype x environment interaction for grain yield in durum wheat using different statistical models. Significant effects of environment, genotype, and GE interactions were observed, with climatic variables influencing the interactions. The multivariate methods provided valuable information on GE interactions, while univariate methods proved to be useful alternatives in improving screening efficiency.

Influence of Drought and Salt Stress on Durum Wheat Grain Quality and Composition: A Review

Michele Andrea De Santis et al.

Summary: Durum wheat is a staple crop in the Mediterranean diet, prized for its adaptability and nutritional value. Environmental stresses such as water deficit and soil salinity can affect the protein and starch composition in durum wheat, in turn impacting yield and quality. Recent studies have discussed the effects of these stresses on various nutritional and health-related components in durum wheat grains.
