MaxEnt modeling to predict the current and future distribution of Clerodendrum infortunatum L. under climate change scenarios in Dehradun district, India

Saurabh Purohit et al.

Summary: The study used the MaxEnt model to predict the potential distribution of Clerodendrum infortunatum L. in Dehradun district, India, under current and future climate scenarios. Results showed that precipitation of coldest quarter and elevation were major contributing variables to the model, and suitable habitat for the species is expected to decrease in the future.

Parthenium hysterophorus: A tale of global invasion over two centuries, spread and prevention measures

Runping Mao et al.

Summary: Parthenium weed has invaded 46 countries and territories since leaving its native range over two centuries ago, with the fastest spread in developing countries post-1950s; majority of international introductions due to border traffic and unchecked imports. While some countries have implemented effective management measures, there is currently insufficient international coordination and formal policies to prevent further spread.

Invasion status and impacts of parthenium weed (Parthenium hysterophorus) in West-Central region of Bhutan

Ngawang Chhogyel et al.

Summary: Parthenium weed is an invasive alien plant species that poses threats to agriculture, biodiversity and the environment in Bhutan. A survey conducted in West-Central Bhutan showed that majority of farmers have encountered the weed, with varying levels of invasion across different land types. The invasion of Parthenium significantly escalated production costs, reduced fodder quality, supressed native species and caused allergies to the locals in the study districts. MaxEnt modelling projections suggest aggressive incursion of Parthenium into important agro-ecological landscapes of Bhutan by 2070, highlighting the urgent need for management strategies.
