Assessment of Ki67 in Breast Cancer: Updated Recommendations From the International Ki67 in Breast Cancer Working Group

Torsten O. Nielsen et al.

Summary: Ki67 immunohistochemistry (IHC) is commonly used in breast cancer as a proliferation marker, but its analytical validity has been questioned. The International Ki67 in Breast Cancer Working Group (IKWG) recommends careful preanalytical handling, adoption of a standardized visual scoring method, and participation in quality assurance and quality control programs. Clinical utility of Ki67 IHC in breast cancer care is currently limited to prognosis assessment in stage I or II breast cancer.

Diagnostic Value of VEGF-A, VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2 in Feline Mammary Carcinoma

Catarina Nascimento et al.

Summary: Feline mammary carcinoma is the third most common neoplasia in cats, with highly malignant behavior. The study suggests that VEGF-A and its serum receptors assessment may have potential in the diagnosis and treatment of feline mammary carcinoma.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

HER2-Targeted Immunotherapy and Combined Protocols Showed Promising Antiproliferative Effects in Feline Mammary Carcinoma Cell-Based Models

Andreia Gameiro et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the antiproliferative effects of two mAbs, an ADC, and combined treatments in feline mammary tumors. The results suggested that anti-HER2 mAbs could be useful in treating FMC, especially when combined with lapatinib, as drug-resistance seems to be rare.

Expression of COX-2, p16, and Ki67 in the range from normal breast tissue to breast cancer

Michaela Feriancova et al.

Summary: The study investigated the expression of COX-2, p16, and Ki67 in various breast lesions, revealing high levels of COX-2 expression across all lesions, predominant p16 overexpression in premalignant and benign lesions, and a high prevalence of COX-2+p16+Ki67+ phenotype in premalignant lesions. Further research is needed to understand the implications of these findings for the progression of premalignant breast lesions.
