Effect of Myostatin Gene Mutation on Slaughtering Performance and Meat Quality in Marchigiana Bulls

Simone Ceccobelli et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the slaughtering performance and meat quality of Marchigiana bulls based on their genotypes at the myostatin gene locus. The heterozygotes showed superior traits in terms of weight, dressing yield, and muscularity, with lower fat content. The myostatin genotype had some effects on meat quality parameters, although not always significant.

Generation of Heritable Prominent Double Muscle Buttock Rabbits via Novel Site Editing of Myostatin Gene Using CRISPR/Cas9 System

Yalin Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, a double muscle phenotype was successfully generated in rabbits through gene mutation, and the heritability of the mutation was observed. This has significant implications for meat production in rabbits as well as the study of muscle development-related diseases.

A highly prevalent SINE mutation in the myostatin (MSTN) gene promoter is associated with low circulating myostatin concentration in Thoroughbred racehorses

Victoria O'Hara et al.

Summary: This study revealed the direct functional effect of a highly prevalent mutation in the equine MSTN gene associated with exercise performance. Horses homozygous for the SINE mutation had significantly lower serum myostatin concentrations, while heterozygotes had lower myostatin concentrations compared to normal horses. The variation in myostatin expression across genotyped groups was not influenced by age or sex.
