Pressure-Driven Phase Separation Based on Modified Porous Mesh for Liquid Management in Microgravity

Ye Wang et al.

Summary: Surface tension plays a significant role in the gas-liquid interface under microgravity. Passive phase separation using porous materials shows promise for liquid management in this environment. This study experimentally investigates the pressure-driven phase separation mechanism, emphasizing the influence of single-phase flow, breakthrough failure, and self-healing ability on liquid acquisition capability. Moreover, a fabrication strategy is proposed and verified to increase the breakthrough threshold pressure without introducing extra flow resistance.

Dynamics of a gas bubble penetrating through porous media

Tianhao Yi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamics of bubble penetration through porous media at the pore scale using a numerical model. The influence of pore shape, width, and height on bubble deformation, velocity, and critical pressure is explored. The findings suggest that quadrilateral pores exhibit larger bubble centroid velocity and higher critical pressure compared to circular or triangular pores, for the same pore size.

Pore-scale numerical simulations of flow and convective heat transfer in a porous woven metal mesh

Guang Yang et al.

Summary: This study developed a numerical model to evaluate the fluid dynamics and heat transfer characteristics of a porous woven mesh at the pore scale. The study comprehensively investigated flow patterns and the effects of fluid properties on flow behavior. A Nusselt number correlation for convective heat transfer was derived based on the pore-scale numerical results. This study provides important insights into the flow physics within a woven mesh and a framework for optimally designing related devices.

Analytical model of flow-through-screen pressure drop for metal wire screens considering the effects of pore structures

Ye Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents an analytical model for a flowthrough-screen (FTS) friction factor considering the effects of pore structures, quantifying pressure drop using the Forchheimer equation. The results obtained from the proposed model are corroborated by 1500+ data points from existing literature, focusing on four typical wire screen types and two temperature conditions.

Flow Physics of Wicking into Woven Screens with Hybrid Micro-/Nanoporous Structures

Ye Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the wicking performance of woven screens through horizontal spreading experiments, finding that multilayer structures enhance wicking capability significantly and hydrophilic nanograsses improve water wicking ability. The spreading mechanism of liquids varies in different woven screen structures.
