Misalignment-eliminated warping image stitching method with grid-based motion statistics matching

Zaifeng Shi et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a misalignment-eliminated warping image stitching method based on grid-based motion statistics (GMS) matching. The method uses a matching approach from coarse to fine and employs local homography with global similarity constraint for image warping, achieving accurate alignment while maintaining a natural look.

Content-Preserving Image Stitching With Piecewise Rectangular Boundary Constraints

Yun Zhang et al.

Summary: This article proposes an approach to content-preserving image stitching with regular boundary constraints, aiming to generate a panoramic image with piecewise rectangular boundaries. By formulating image stitching with regular boundaries in a unified optimization framework, the method efficiently produces visually pleasing panoramas with regular boundaries and unnoticeable distortions.

A Novel Centralization Method for Pipe Image Stitching

Salaheddin Hosseinzadeh et al.

Summary: The article proposes a novel method for creating unwrapped stitched images of pipework internal surfaces, involving estimation of the probe's position relative to the pipe using an integrated laser ring projector and camera sensor, followed by unwrapping the image to produce an undistorted view of the pipe interior. The pose estimation demonstrated a 90% confidence interval of +/- 0.5 mm and +/- 0.5 degrees in translation and rotation changes, and the method showed near equivalent results to traditional mechanical centralization in testing on visual test card images and aluminum pipe samples with artificial defects.

Quantitative Assessment Method of Image Stitching Performance Based on Estimation of Planar Parallax

Kyunghwa Jung et al.

Summary: While parallax-tolerant image stitching is a mature field, the assessment of the performance of image stitching methods has been primarily subjective. This study proposes a method to quantify the parallax level of input images and cluster them accordingly for a quantitative assessment of stitching methods. Experimental comparisons show variations in residual misalignment errors among existing methods, with the elastic local alignment method exhibiting the least error and the shape-preserving half-projective method producing a larger misalignment error but less geometric distortion in the panorama.
