Polyarylester thin films with narrowed pore size distribution via metal-phenolic network modulated interfacial polymerization for precise separation

Anqi Tang et al.

Summary: By utilizing a metal-phenolic network (MPN) method, a highly-permselective nanofiltration (NF) membrane with a controlled polyarylester selective layer was developed. This work provides a promising alternative for efficient and precise molecular separation by skillfully controlling the pore structure of NF membranes.

Effect of synthesis conditions on the non-uniformity of nanofiltration membrane pore size distribution

Ting Zhang et al.

Summary: The uniformity of membrane pore sizes significantly affects the rejection performance of nanofiltration membranes. This study investigated the determination methods of membrane pore size and uniformity for lab-made NF membranes, finding that high piperazine concentration and curing temperature can enhance pore size uniformity. The log-normal distribution method is more direct in characterizing pore size uniformity.

A combined interfacial polymerization and in-situ sol-gel strategy to construct composite nanofiltration membrane with improved pore size distribution and anti-protein-fouling property

Yupeng Liu et al.

Summary: The study proposed a novel combined interfacial polymerization (IP) and in-situ sol-gel strategy to fabricate composite nanofiltration membrane with narrow pore size distribution, enhancing membrane perm-selectivity and protein fouling resistance. The addition of TEOS in the interfacially synthesized selective separation layer was effective in tuning the mean pore diameter and narrowing the pore size distribution. Compared to membranes fabricated by only IP technique, the membranes fabricated by the combined IP and sol-gel technique showed higher water permeability and rejection ratio, indicating improved performance.
