Effect of using limestone fines on the chemical shrinkage of pastes and mortars

Jamal Khatib et al.

Summary: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of incorporating limestone fine (LF) on the chemical shrinkage of pastes and mortars. The results showed that the long-term chemical shrinkage of pastes increased with the increase in LF content up to 15%, while the chemical shrinkage of mortars decreased beyond a certain LF content. Additionally, the compressive strength of pastes and mortars reached the highest value for mixes containing 10% and 15% LF.

Performance of prestressed concrete beams using magnetic water for concrete mixing

Ramalingam Malathy et al.

Summary: The application of magnetic water in concrete can significantly improve its workability and strength, accelerate the hydration process, and reduce the cement content. For M40 grade concrete, the use of magnetic water can also increase its flexural strength. Studies have shown that magnetic water helps in the formation of hydrated products of cements, enhancing the hydration level of concrete.

Investigations on alternate lime-pozzolana based mortars for repair of heritage structures

Degloorkar Nikhil Kumar et al.

Summary: Lime was a widely used construction material in ancient times, but its use declined with the invention of cement. Lime was found to be a better repair material for heritage structures due to its compatibility with ancient lime and masonry units. In this study, the physical, mechanical, and durability characteristics of lime-based mortars with fly ash/GGBS replacements were analyzed. Lime-GGBS mortars with 66% replacement showed the highest mechanical strength and low porosity.

Influence of organic addition on strength and durability of lime mortar prepared with clay aggregate

Simon Jayasingh et al.

Summary: This paper studies the mechanical and physico-chemical properties of organic treated lime mortar and explores the effects of lime-to-clay ratio and organic admixture concentration on the mortar's performance. The experimental results show that the addition of organic materials improves the hydration and carbonation processes of lime mortar, enhancing its durability and strength.

Effect of limestone fines as a partial replacement of cement on the chemical, autogenous, drying shrinkage and expansion of mortars

Jamal M. Khatib et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of incorporating different percentages of limestone fines on the shrinkage and expansion of mortar specimens. The results showed that adding up to 10% limestone fines enhanced the chemical and autogenous shrinkage of the mortar, but increased the drying shrinkage. These findings are important for optimizing mortar mixtures.

Comparative Polyphenol Composition, Antioxidant and Anticorrosion Properties in Various Parts of Panax ginseng Extracted in Different Solvents

Ramalingam Malathy et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and anticorrosion activities of ginseng prepared using five different solvents, with the methanolic fruit extract showing comparably good activity. Furthermore, the study identified the presence of phenolic components through UHPLC, such as chlorogenic acid, gentisic acid, and rutin in higher amounts in the fruit extract, while m-coumaric acid and p-coumaric acid were significant in the leaf extract. Additionally, the anti-corrosive property of the fruit extract using methanol as a solvent was found to have 96% corrosion inhibition efficiency against 1 M HCl medium.

Inhibitory effect of biowaste on copper corrosion in 1 M HCl solution

Venkatesan Hemapriya et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the efficient corrosion-mitigating effect of human hair extract (HRE) on copper surfaces in 1 M HCl, achieving a maximum inhibition efficiency of 92.47% using 100 ppm of the HRE inhibitor. Surface analysis confirmed the precipitation of a protective HRE film on the metal surface, while Tafel plot results indicated mixed-mode corrosion protection behavior of HRE. Interaction studies using FT-IR and XRD spectroscopy further supported these findings.

Volume Stability of Cement Paste Containing Limestone Fines

Jamal Khatib et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that replacing 15% of limestone fines can enhance the chemical shrinkage of the paste, while autogenous shrinkage increases between 0 and 10% replacement and sharply decreases at 15% and 20% replacement. Drying shrinkage increases with the increase in limestone fines content, and expansion increases for replacements above 15% limestone fines.
