Methodological aspects of dried blood spot sampling for the determination of isoprostanoids and prostanoids

Summary: Dried Blood Spot (DBS) analysis is a commonly used method for monitoring newborns, but the distribution of blood and the volume of blood drops can affect the quality of analytical data. A comparison of non-volumetric and volumetric sampling showed that the drop volume significantly affects the analytical performance of the non-volumetric approach. The Minivette (R) POCT device is considered the best option for easy and reliable DBS collection. Our procedure was used to determine metabolites in patients with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), and the results showed a significant decrease in metabolite levels after ibuprofen therapy.
