High fat diet-induced brain damaging effects through autophagy-mediated senescence, inflammation and apoptosis mitigated by ginsenoside F1-enhanced mixture

Jingang Hou et al.

Summary: The enhanced mixture of Ginsenoside F1 (SGB121) has been found to have a protective effect against brain damage caused by a high fat diet. SGB121 selectively suppresses oxidative stress, cellular senescence, and inflammation response in the brain. It also improves mitophagy and endoplasmic reticulum-stress associated autophagy flux, inhibits apoptosis, and regulates lipid uptake and accumulation. Furthermore, SGB121 significantly reduces phosphorylated tau protein levels and GFAP activation in the cortex.

Role of Hypothalamic Reactive Astrocytes in Diet-Induced Obesity

Moonsun Sa et al.

Summary: Recent research has found that reactive astrocytes in the hypothalamus play a significant role in diet-induced obesity, as they release the major inhibitory transmitter GABA to directly influence nearby neurons involved in energy expenditure. These findings shed light on the interaction between reactive astrocytes and neighboring neurons, providing new potential therapeutic targets for obesity.

Summary: Astrocytes are functionally integrated into neuronal regulatory circuits for metabolic control, particularly in the hypothalamus, where early cellular rearrangements may play a key role in the pathogenesis of obesity.
