Summary: Up to 30% of oral cavity cancer patients with negative surgical margins may experience tumor recurrence, and early molecular alterations in tumor-adjacent normal tissues may play a key role. By evaluating DNA methylation patterns in negative surgical margins, specific markers associated with tumor recurrence were identified. These markers could aid in identifying high-risk individuals and improving survival rates through potentially personalized treatment approaches.
