Near-Infrared Light-Driven Shape-Programmable Hydrogel Actuators Loaded with Metal-Organic Frameworks

Xinmu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents the design and synthesis of near-infrared light-driven hydrogel actuators loaded with metal-organic frameworks. The metal-organic frameworks serve as efficient photothermal nanotransducers and accelerate the adsorption/desorption of water, leading to fast response rates of the actuators. By tailoring the patterning of the hydrogel actuators, different shape-morphing modes can be achieved under near-infrared light irradiation.

A solvent driven dual responsive actuator based on MOF/polymer composite

Zhuting Hao et al.

Summary: In this study, a solvent-driven dual-responsive actuator based on MOF/polymer composite was successfully prepared. The composite film exhibited a synergistic coupling of surface color change and out-of-plane motion under the driven of methanol vapor. The actuator showed rapid bending deformation and a wide range of color changes, including high saturation colors such as red, green, and blue that could be observed from different view angles. Additionally, several simple devices were designed based on this material, suggesting its potential applications.

Air-working ionic soft actuator based on three-dimensional graphene electrode

Kai Xiang et al.

Summary: Air-working ionic soft actuators were fabricated by hot-pressing assembly with PVDF-HFP as the polymer matrix supporting IL and 3D graphene/conductive polymer composite as the flexible electrode. Actuators with different 3D graphene electrodes were obtained, showing better bending actuating performance compared to 2D graphene actuators. The best performing 3D graphene actuator achieved a peak-to-peak electric induced bending displacement of 8.5 mm at 3 V and 0.1 Hz.

Controllable synthesis of coral-like hierarchical porous magnesium hydroxide with various surface area and pore volume for lead and cadmium ion adsorption

Hu Zhu et al.

Summary: A coral-like hierarchical porous magnesium hydroxide (HPMH) with controllable nanostructure, surface area, and pore volume was successfully prepared using a simple one-step hydrothermal process. The addition of citric acid (CA) played a key role in regulating the pore structure of the HPMH products. The HPMH showed high adsorption capabilities for Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions, following a Pseudo-second-order and Langmuir adsorption mechanism, suggesting a monolayer chemical adsorption process for heavy metal ions.

Insights into the electric double-layer capacitance of two-dimensional electrically conductive metal-organic frameworks

Jamie W. Gittins et al.

Summary: Two-dimensional electrically conductive metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown promising potential for use in electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). The study found that the capacitive performance of these nearly isostructural MOFs is largely independent of the identity of the metal node and organic linker molecule. The performance of EDLCs is uniquely defined by the 3D structure of the electrodes and the electrolyte, with limitations in stable double-layer voltage window and capacitance retention compared to traditional electrode materials.
