Application of Nanostructured TiO2 in UV Photodetectors: A Review

Ziliang Li et al.

Summary: Titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a wide-bandgap semiconductor material has gained significant attention for applications in fields like environmental and energy. Constructing high-performance photodetectors (PDs) based on TiO2 nanostructures with efficient microtopography and device configuration, while understanding key parameters influencing carrier behavior, is crucial for improved photoelectric performance and functional applications. This work provides an in-depth illustration of the electrical and optical properties of TiO2 nanostructures and advancements in technological issues for future applications.

Investigation of UV light enhanced gas adsorption properties of CeO2 Kelvin Probe

Punitha Shanmugam et al.

Summary: CeO2 nanoparticles with irregular shapes and sizes were synthesized by the precipitation method using poly(vinylpyrrolidone) as a precipitating agent. Raman spectroscopy confirmed the presence of oxygen vacancies in the synthesized material. The CeO2 nanoparticles showed selective adsorption towards triethylamine vapours, making them a potential candidate for a novel gas sensor for room temperature triethylamine detection.

Role of disorder in the synthesis of metastable zinc zirconium nitrides

Rachel Woods-Robinson et al.

Summary: In this study, combinatorial sputtering was used to synthesize ZnxZr1-xNy thin-film samples, and it was found that rocksalt-derived or boron-nitride-derived structures were formed instead of the predicted wurtsalt structure. At high temperatures, the rocksalt structure became the most stable polymorph, validating the experimental results. The destabilization of the wurtsalt polymorph was attributed to configurational entropic and enthalpic effects, with vibrational contributions being negligible. The rocksalt and boron-nitride-derived structures exhibited higher disorder tolerance, making them more stable in the synthesis of competing polymorphs.

X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Depth Profiling of As-Grown and Annealed Titanium Nitride Thin Films

Monzer Maarouf et al.

Summary: In this study, titanium nitride thin films were grown on Si(001) and fused silica substrates by radio frequency reactive magnetron sputtering, followed by post-growth annealing at different temperatures in nitrogen ambient. The films annealed at temperatures above 300 degrees C showed higher surface roughness, smaller grain size, better crystallinity, and decreased bandgap. Hall effect measurements indicated n-type conductivity in all films, with high carrier concentration that slightly increased with annealing temperature. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the formation of Ti-N bond and the presence of chemisorbed oxygen in the films, with annealing in nitrogen ambient resulting in increased nitrogen vacancies and non-stoichiometric TiN films.

Synthesis of Zn2NbN3 ternary nitride semiconductor with wurtzite-derived crystal structure

Andriy Zakutayev

Summary: This study demonstrates the synthesis and characterization of zinc niobium nitride (Zn2NbN3), a previously unreported II2-V-N-3 ternary nitride semiconductor. The Zn2NbN3 thin films were found to have a cation-disordered wurtzite-derived structure, in contrast to the chemically related rocksalt-derived Mg2NbN3 compound. Experimental measurements indicate lower values for the wurtzite lattice parameter ratio and optical absorption onset of Zn2NbN3 compared to computational values, suggesting the role of cation disorder in influencing the properties of heterovalent ternary nitride materials.
