The virtues and vices of protein citrullination

Summary: Post-translational modification of proteins, particularly citrullination mediated by peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD) enzymes, plays a vital role in regulating the proteome. While the biochemistry of PAD activation has been extensively studied in vitro, the mechanisms regulating PADIs within cells are not well understood.
