Drug Resistance in Glioblastoma: The Two Faces of Oxidative Stress

Christophe Olivier et al.

Summary: GBM is a common primary brain tumor with poor prognosis, driven by GSCs in specialized microenvironments and characterized by resistance to therapy. ROS play a dual role in controlling cellular stability, affecting cell cycle, progression, and drug resistance in GBM, while also inducing cell death programs like apoptosis and autophagy. The metabolic adaptation and stromal components in the microenvironment contribute to oxidative stress and drug resistance in GBM progression.

TRAF4/6 Is Needed for CD44 Cleavage and Migration via RAC1 Activation

Constantinos Kolliopoulos et al.

Summary: Tumor cells receive signals from the extracellular matrix, including hyaluronan, which binds to CD44 receptors and initiates signaling pathways involved in growth and survival. CD44 undergoes proteolytic cleavage promoted by TGF beta, TRAF4 or TRAF6, leading to migration of tumor cells. Targeting CD44 signaling via TRAF4/6 and RAC1 may be beneficial in the treatment of tumors.

Residual Disease in Glioma Recurrence: A Dangerous Liaison with Senescence

Diana A. Putavet et al.

Summary: Glioblastoma (GBM) is a highly lethal form of brain cancer with poor prognosis. Cellular senescence plays a crucial role in promoting GBM recurrence, and developing anti-senescence therapies may be a promising approach to combat against GBM.

The scrambled story between hyaluronan and glioblastoma

Matias Arturo Pibuel et al.

Summary: Advances in cancer biology have highlighted the significance of the cancer cell microenvironment, with focus on the role of hyaluronan (HA) in the progression of glioblastoma (GBM). Despite decades of research, the mechanisms underlying HA's impact on GBM remain elusive. Various strategies have been employed to understand HA's function and potential therapeutic targeting to improve the outcomes for GBM patients.
