Updated European Association of Urology (EAU) Prognostic Factor Risk Groups Overestimate the Risk of Progression in Patients with Non-muscle-invasive Bladder Cancer Treated with Bacillus Calmette-Guerin

Niyati Lobo et al.

Summary: The 2021 EAU prognostic factor risk groups for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) successfully stratify patients' progression risks, but their predictive ability is reduced in patients treated with bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG), and the progression risks are overestimated in these patients.

European Association of Urology (EAU) Prognostic Factor Risk Groups for Non-muscle-invasive Bladder Cancer (NMIBC) Incorporating the WHO 2004/2016 and WHO 1973 Classification Systems for Grade: An Update from the EAU NMIBC Guidelines Panel

Richard J. Sylvester et al.

Summary: This study updated the European Association of Urology prognostic factor risk groups for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, incorporating the WHO 2004/2016 and 1973 grading classifications and identifying a new very high-risk group. This can help urologists better tailor patients' treatment and follow-up plans.

Radical Cystectomy Against Intravesical BCG for High-Risk High-Grade Nonmuscle Invasive Bladder Cancer: Results From the Randomized Controlled BRAVO-Feasibility Study

James W. F. Catto et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare intravesical maintenance Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (mBCG) and radical cystectomy (RC) in high-grade nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer (HRNMIBC), but recruitment was challenging. Results showed around 10% of patients have lethal disease suitable for radical treatment, while many are candidates for bladder preservation with maintained quality of life.

Upstaging and Survival Outcomes for Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer After Radical Cystectomy: Results from the International Robotic Cystectomy Consortium

Umar Iqbal et al.

Summary: The study showed that a significant proportion of NMIBC patients experienced pathologic upstaging to MIBC after RARC, with older age, cT(1) disease, and hydronephrosis being associated with a higher likelihood of upstaging. Upstaged patients had worse survival outcomes.
