Human Tumor Targeted Cytotoxic Mast Cells for Cancer Immunotherapy

Mohammad Fereydouni et al.

Summary: The diversity of autologous cells used for cancer therapy is increasing. Mast cells contain anti-cancer mediators and can be targeted to release these mediators using tumor-specific IgE. In this study, HER2/neu-specific IgE-sensitized mast cells were able to bind to and kill HER2/neu-positive cancer cells, suggesting potential for targeted cancer therapy. The mechanism of action involves TNF and TGF beta signaling pathways leading to tumor cell apoptosis.
