Effects of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Obesity on 30-Day Readmissions in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease A Cross-Sectional Mediation Analysis

Jessica E. Channick et al.

Summary: Comorbidity is a significant factor in the health status and healthcare utilization of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with poorer outcomes, while obesity has a protective effect. This study explored the prevalence and influence of these comorbidities on readmissions in COPD patients. The findings show that obesity and OSA increase the odds of readmission, and that OSA attenuates the impact of obesity on readmission.
