The Association Between Risk Factors for Metabolic Syndrome and Meibomian Gland Disease in a Dry Eye Cohort

However, MGD was associated with male gender and increasing age. There is currently a lack of knowledge regarding the most important risk factors for eye dryness. Female gender, contact lenses, use of computers, thyroid abnormalities, hypertension, antidepressant, and antihistamine have been identified as the strongest and most common risk factors for dry eye syndrome.
