Risk Indicators and Treatment Needs of Children 2-5 Years of Age Receiving Dental Treatment under General Anesthesia in Saskatchewan

Alyssa Weninger et al.

Summary: The purpose of this cross-sectional study is to explore the risk indicators and treatment needs of children receiving dental treatment under general anesthesia (GA) in Saskatchewan. The results show that these children have a high burden of dental caries, with significant associations found with factors such as location of primary residence, family income, family size, parental education, dental home, and body mass index. Therefore, strategies to reduce early childhood caries should not only focus on improving oral hygiene at home and nutritional education, but also on improving access to oral health care.
