Elucidating the biodegradation pathway and catabolic genes of benzophenone-3 in Rhodococcus sp. S2-17

Ju Hye Baek et al.

Summary: A new bacterium, Rhodococcus sp. S2-17, was isolated from contaminated sediment and found to have the ability to completely degrade the emerging organic pollutant benzophenone-3 (BP-3). Through various analyses and studies, the catabolic pathway and genes involved in BP-3 degradation were identified. It was discovered that strain S2-17 may degrade BP-3 by recruiting the cytochrome P450 complex and alpha/beta hydrolase enzymes.

Novel bile acid biosynthetic pathways are enriched in the microbiome of centenarians

Yuko Sato et al.

Summary: Centenarians have a unique gut microbiome enriched in microorganisms capable of producing specific bile acids, including a previously undescribed isoform. The specific bile acid isoalloLCA exhibits potent antimicrobial effects against Gram-positive multidrug-resistant pathogens, suggesting a potential role in reducing infection risk.
