Enhanced generation of angle correlated photon-pairs in nonlinear metasurfaces

Andrea Mazzanti et al.

Summary: We demonstrate that enhanced generation of photon pairs with narrow frequency spectra and sharp angular correlations can be achieved through spontaneous parametric down-conversion in metasurfaces. This is accomplished by creating meta-gratings through nano-structuring of nonlinear films of sub-wavelength thickness, supporting extended bound state in the continuum resonances with ultra-high Q-factors, at the biphoton wavelengths across a wide range of emission angles. These spectral features of photons have potential benefits for various applications, including quantum imaging.

Summary: A new set of quasi-bound state in the continuum (QBIC) resonances, which can be considered as 1D QBICs, is demonstrated by using a special binary grating. These QBIC resonances are continuously distributed over a broad frequency band, allowing for significantly enhanced light-matter interactions at arbitrarily chosen frequencies.

Photon Pairs from Resonant Metasurfaces

Tomas Santiago-Cruz et al.

Summary: All-dielectric optical metasurfaces are able to manipulate light in different degrees of freedom and demonstrate the first-time generation of photon pairs via spontaneous parametric-down conversion. By engineering the quantum optical metasurface, the photon-pair spectrum can be tailored in a controlled way, enhancing the rate of pair production up to 2 orders of magnitude compared to unpatterned films. These results enable flat-optics sources of entangled photons, providing a new promising platform for quantum optics experiments.

Enhanced generation of nondegenerate photon pairs in nonlinear metasurfaces

Matthew Parry et al.

Summary: By utilizing the interplay of multiple bound states in the continuum resonances in nonlinear metasurfaces, a regime of nondegenerate photon-pair generation is theoretically predicted. This can significantly enhance the photon rate and spectral brightness compared to the degenerate regime, and the entanglement of the photon pairs can be tuned by varying the pump polarization for potential applications in ultracompact quantum light sources.
