Binding properties of cucurbit[7]uril to neutral and protonated amino acids: A theoretical study

Fenfen Ma et al.

Summary: Through quantum chemistry methods, this study systematically investigates the binding nature of CB[7] with 20 amino acids in different states, revealing that protonated CB[7]/AA(+) has stronger binding strength than neutral CB[7]/AA due to the introduction of ion-dipole interaction. Electrostatic interactions play a significant role in both CB[7] / AAs and CB[7] / AAs(+) complexes. Additionally, the study analyzes the dependence of binding strength on the volume and dipole moment of single amino acids, providing valuable information for predicting recognition sites and designing synthetic host molecules for specific peptide or protein recognition.

Recognition of glycine by cucurbit[5]uril and cucurbit[6]uril: A comparative study of exo- and endo-binding

Peihui Shan et al.

Summary: The recognition features of glycine with cucurbit[5]uril and cucurbit[6]uril were investigated in aqueous solution and solid state using H-1 NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. Different binding modes were observed, with glycine showing exo binding with Q[5] and endo or dual binding with Q[6. X-ray crystallography showed the formation of exclusion complex with Q[5] and inclusion complex with Q[6], with hydrogen bondings observed between encapsulated glycine molecules in Q[6].

Controllable Synthesis of Dodecamethylcucurbit[6]uril and Its Application in Separating Phenylenediamine Isomers

Long Cao et al.

Summary: By utilizing the method of building blocks, the synthesis of Me(12)Q[6] was achieved and its ability to selectively accommodate o-PDA over its isomers was demonstrated in a supramolecular framework. This suggests practical applications in separating PDA isomers and other organic molecules.

A computational study on the complexation of bisbenzimidazolyl derivatives with cucurbituril and cyclohexylcucurbituril

N. S. Venkataramanan et al.

Summary: Density functional theory studies have shown that the binding properties of 1,ω-bisbenzimidazolyl derivatives with cucurbit[6]uril and cyclohexanocucurbit[6]uril hosts are influenced by factors such as the structure of the host and hydrogen bonding interactions. The energetic analysis indicates a stronger complexation ability of guests with Q[6] compared to Cy6Q[6] host. Charge transfer calculations and electron density difference maps support the occurrence of charge transfer from the guest to the host molecule. Additionally, weak interactions such as hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions contribute to the stability of the complexes.

Separation of phenylenediamine isomers by using decamethylcucurbit[5]uril

Long Cao et al.

Summary: The study found that Me(10)Q[5] forms exclusion complexes with different phenylenediamine isomers, but with significantly different binding affinities. Using Me(10)Q[5] effectively separates the three PDA isomers, with p-phenylenediamine precipitating quantitatively in acidic medium, m-phenylenediamine continuously forming microcrystals, while o-phenylenediamine does not form solid substances under the same conditions.

Controlled release of anticancer drug using o-phenylenediamine functionalized SBA-15 as a novel nanocarrier

Leila Hajiaghababaei et al.

Summary: A pH-sensitive drug delivery system was presented using o-phenylenediamine functionalized SBA-15 as a carrier for controlled release of imatinib mesylate. The release of imatinib mesylate from o-phenylenediamine functionalized SBA-15 showed pH-associated behavior, with faster release at lower pH. The results indicated that o-phenylenediamine functionalized SBA-15 is a suitable option for controlled release of imatinib mesylate.

Temozolomide binding to Cucurbit[7]uril: QTAIM, NCI-RDG and NBO analyses

Khawla Yahiaoui et al.

Summary: The research investigates the inclusion behavior of the antineoplastic drug TMZ in the CB[7] host, revealing the driving forces stabilizing the TMZ@CB[7] complex and the nature and strength of intermolecular interactions. The analysis also distinguishes two kinds of H-bonds and reveals a good correlation with intermolecular bond distance and electron density through Espinosa energies. Moreover, the NCI-RDG method segregates weak interaction regions and identifies interaction sites responsible for UV-Vis absorption bands.
