Regulation mechanism of biomolecule interaction behaviors on the superlubricity of hydrophilic polymer coatings

Caixia Zhang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the friction behavior of poly(vinylphosphonic acid) (PVPA)-modified artificial implants. It was found that proteins disturbed the superlubricity of the PVPA coating, while polysaccharides had little effect. The study also found that polysaccharides can reduce protein adsorption.

Ultralow friction polymer composites incorporated with monodispersed oil microcapsules

Lin Zhang et al.

Summary: By adding oil-loaded microcapsules into epoxy resin, ultralow friction polymer composites can significantly reduce friction coefficient and wear rate. The released PAO oil from the microcapsules during the friction process forms a lubricating film to prevent direct contact of two rubbing surfaces, leading to extremely low friction coefficient and wear rate.

Tribological properties of MoS2coating for ultra-long wear-life and low coefficient of friction combined with additive g-C3N4in air

Yupeng Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, g-C3N4 (CN) was successfully combined with MoS(2) to create a solid lubricant CN/MoS(2) demonstrating low friction coefficient and ultra-long wear-life compared to pure MoS(2) in air. Characterization techniques including FTIR, XRD, XPS, SEM, and HRTEM were used to analyze the lubricant material, revealing the synergistic presence of iron oxide nanoparticles lubricating film with CN/MoS(2) film as the key factor for its ultra-long wear-life. Additionally, the friction mechanism involving interlayer sliding friction combined with energy storage friction was proposed.

A review on tribology of polymer composite coatings

Yilong Ren et al.

Summary: This study compares the heat resistance, tribological and mechanical properties of polymer matrices and functional fillers in composite coatings, and discusses the mechanisms of friction reduction and mechanical property enhancement. Methods for improving the adhesion properties between the coating and substrate are also explored. Design strategies for high-performance polymer composite coating systems and the current limitations in polymer composite coating research are proposed.

Friction at nanopillared polymer surfaces beyond Amontons' laws: Stick-slip amplitude coefficient (SSAC) and multiparametric nanotribological properties

Mohd I. Ishak et al.

Summary: Frictional and nanomechanical properties of nanostructured polymer surfaces play a crucial role in their applications. This study investigated the relationship between nanopillar height and friction coefficient, and found correlations between frictional instabilities and nanopillar density, pull-off force, and work of adhesion. The results suggest that multiparametric nanotribological analysis of nanostructured surfaces should go beyond classic Amontons' laws, with SSAC being more representative of the frictional properties.
