Endothelial Dysfunction in Pulmonary Hypertension: Cause or Consequence?

Kondababu Kurakula et al.

Summary: This review highlights the crucial role of endothelial cell dysfunction in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and its contribution to the progression of the disease. The activation of various cellular signaling pathways due to endothelial cell dysfunction ultimately leads to pulmonary artery remodeling and occlusion. Understanding the molecular signals orchestrating endothelial cell dysfunction in PAH is essential for exploring therapeutic interventions targeting this process.

Age-dependent alveolar epithelial plasticity orchestrates lung homeostasis and regeneration

Ian J. Penkala et al.

Summary: The regeneration of the architecturally complex alveolar niche of the lung requires precise temporal and spatial control of epithelial cell behavior. Injury can result in a permanent reduction in gas exchange surface area and respiratory function. The plasticity of alveolar type 1 cells plays a crucial role in driving regeneration, particularly in the early postnatal period.

Close Association Between Platelet Biogenesis and Alveolarization of the Developing Lung

Xueyu Chen et al.

Summary: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a neonatal chronic lung disease with characteristics of arrested alveolar and vascular development, caused by lung immaturity, ventilator-induced lung injury, and hyperoxia exposure. Studies have shown a close association between platelet biogenesis and alveolarization in the developing lung. This association may explain the reduced platelet count in extremely premature infants with BPD.
