Effect of local texture and residual stress on the bendability of extruded 6000-series Al alloy profiles

Shogo Oda et al.

Summary: In this study, X-ray cos alpha measurement was optimized with 3-axis oscillation to accurately measure residual stress in extruded Al alloy profiles with preferred orientations and large grain sizes. A grain-growth region was observed in A6005C below the surface-bulk boundary, visualized through texture differences, which corresponded well with the major changes in residual stress. The boundary of texture changes coincided with local stress maxima, leading to anisotropic bending behavior.

Failure with Strain Localization of Aluminum Alloy 7075 Sheets at Elevated Temperature and its Application to Two-Step Hybrid Forming

Jong-Hwa Hong et al.

Summary: This study numerically estimated the onset of failure induced by severe strain at elevated temperature using a cross-formed empirical hardening law describing material softening. The identified hardening parameters were validated by simulating a two-step hybrid forming process for producing a shock absorber housing. The simulation results reasonably matched experiments in terms of failure occurrence, location, final shape, and thickness distribution, indicating the effectiveness of the approach.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of AA5052-H32 Al Alloy with U-Profile in Cold Roll Forming

Mohanraj Murugesan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the presence of longitudinal bow, reasons behind flange height deviation, spring-back phenomenon, and thinning location in the cold roll-forming process. It was found that the longitudinal strain influences the geometry profile, with spring-back being more pronounced at the profile tail end at higher forming speeds and lower strip thicknesses. The study also observed insignificant variations in strain and stress with changing forming speeds, as well as consistent results in thinning behavior.

The effect of Mg and Si content on the microstructure, texture and bendability of Al-Mg-Si alloys

Zhenguo Li et al.

Summary: In this study, four model Al?Mg?Si automotive sheet alloys with different Mg and Si contents were prepared and heat treated to the same T4P temper. The influence of Mg and Si content on microstructure, crystallographic texture, tensile behavior, and bendability was investigated. It was found that increased Mg and Si content led to decreased bendability and the fracture mode was predominately transgranular.
