Electron-rich interface of Cu-Co heterostructure nanoparticle as a cocatalyst for enhancing photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Sibo Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism of interfacial effect on enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution using CuCo@C nanoparticles as cocatalysts. The CuCo@C/g-C3N4 showed a higher rate of visible light-driven photocatalytic hydrogen evolution compared to other control groups. Experimental and theoretical calculations revealed that the enrichment of electrons at the Cu-Co interface promoted the separation of electron-hole pairs and accelerated charge transfer. Additionally, the carbon layer and Cu-Co interface regulated the adsorption free energy of hydrogen on CuCo@C, favoring hydrogen evolution.

Insight into the piezo-photo coupling effect of PbTiO3/CdS composites for piezo-photocatalytic hydrogen production

Xueyan Huang et al.

Summary: The study focused on the potential of the alternating piezoelectric field induced by periodic stress to enhance the performance of PbTiO3/CdS heterojunction complexes in H-2 production. Results showed that the introduction of alternating piezoelectric potential significantly increased the H-2 production rate, outperforming individual piezo-catalysis and photocatalysis. Finite element simulation further demonstrated the superior piezoelectric potential difference in the PbTiO3/CdS heterostructure compared to pure PbTiO3 or pure CdS.

Photocatalytic solar hydrogen production from water on a 100-m2 scale

Hiroshi Nishiyama et al.

Summary: Hydrogen, as an energy carrier, can be obtained through photocatalysis and electrolysis, making it a carbon-neutral energy source. While photocatalytic water splitting efficiency is low, large-scale safe production and collection of hydrogen is feasible. The essential next steps for economic viability and practical use are reactor and process optimization to reduce costs and improve efficiency and stability.

Polarization-enhanced photoelectrochemical properties of BaTiO3/BaTiO3-x/CdS heterostructure nanocubes

Mingjun Zhu et al.

Summary: A novel core-shell-structured crystalline-BaTiO3/amorphous-BaTiO3-x/crystalline-CdS composite nanocubes were prepared with the aim of improving photocatalytic activity for water splitting. Basic characterization techniques confirmed the quality of their crystal structure, morphology, and chemical components, while UV-Vis-NIR measurements validated extended visible-light absorbance. Photoelectrochemical tests showed that the composite nanocubes exhibited higher performance compared to pure BaTiO3, CdS and BaTiO3/BaTiO3-x films, suggesting a new potential route for designing cost-effective, highly stable and efficient photocatalysts.
