Decrypting Catalytic NOx Activation and Poison Fragmentation Routes Boosted by Mono- and Bi-Dentate Surface SO32-/SO42- Modifiers under a SO2-Containing Flue Gas Stream

Jongsik Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the catalytic significance of SOA2- species in NH3-assisted selective NOx reduction and ammonium sulfate/absorbent poison degradation. The results show that mono-dentate and bi-dentate SOA2- species play crucial roles in directing the reaction pathways and improving the surface redox trait, thus promoting the low-temperature SCR performance and stability under different feed gas streams.

Metal-Organic Frameworks Derived Plasmonic Catalyst with Full Spectral Response for Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting Enhancement

Chuanping Li et al.

Summary: This study designed a plasmon-enhanced catalyst by integrating metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-derived Cd0.8Zn0.2S with Ag/Au hollow porous nanoshells (Ag/Au HPNSs), which extends the spectral absorption range and improves the performance of photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. Theoretical simulations showed that MOFs-derived Cd0.8Zn0.2S with a high dielectric constant can prevent the decay of plasmon fringing field and enhance charge separation efficiency.

Material design with the concept of solid solution-type defect engineering in realizing the conversion of an electrocatalyst of NiS2 into a photocatalyst for hydrogen evolution

Xiaoyun Chen et al.

Summary: By converting a lower-bandgap and electrocatalyst-type NiS2 phase into a higher-bandgap and photocatalyst-type NiInOS phase, excellent photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (PHER) is achieved. The incorporation of indium and oxygen into NiS2 structure to form (Ni,In)(O,S)2-x leads to the enhancement of PHER, with the best performance exhibited by samples containing 16.8% oxygen vacancy. The DFT calculation suggests that surface oxygen vacancies of (Ni,In)(O,S)2-x have strong interaction with H2O, resulting in a high water adsorption energy.

General and Robust Photothermal-Heating-Enabled High-Efficiency Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

Bing He et al.

Summary: The performance of photoanodes in PEC water splitting can be significantly enhanced by sandwiching a photothermal Co3O4 layer between a BiVO4 film and an FeOOH/NiOOH electrocatalyst sheet. This strategy improves light absorption, charge transfer, and water oxidation kinetics simultaneously, leading to superior photocurrent density and efficiency. The use of a variety of metal sulfides, nitrides, and phosphides as heaters can also yield high-performance photoanodes.

Plasmon-Enhanced Charge Separation and Surface Reactions Based on Ag-Loaded Transition-Metal Hydroxide for Photoelectrochemical Water Oxidation

Xingming Ning et al.

Summary: Coating photoanodes with transition-metal hydroxides (TMH) is a promising approach for improving photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation. Effective charge separation and enhanced surface catalysis dynamics are achieved through decoration of plasmon metal (Ag) in a semiconductor/TMH coupling system for PEC water splitting. The study provides a guiding design method for solar energy conversion with the semiconductor-TMH system, demonstrating the universality of the approach.

g-C3N4-Based 2D/2D Composite Heterojunction Photocatalyst

Bicheng Zhu et al.

Summary: Using semiconductor photocatalysis to convert solar energy into chemical energy is a viable strategy for addressing the energy and environmental crisis. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a popular 2D photocatalyst with visible light response, low cost, and high stability, but single g-C3N4 photocatalyst has poor performance due to fast recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Hybridizing g-C3N4 with other 2D materials to construct 2D/2D heterojunction photocatalysts improves this limitation by offering large contact area and plentiful channels for the migration and separation of photogenerated charge carriers, inheriting the strengths of 2D structure such as high specific surface area and abundant active sites.
