Metabolism and Metabolic Disorders and the Microbiome: The Intestinal Microbiota Associated With Obesity, Lipid Metabolism, and Metabolic Health-Pathophysiology and Therapeutic Strategies

Judith Aron-Wisnewsky et al.

Summary: Studying the changes in the intestinal microbiome and their relationship with obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic diseases has provided insights into the mechanisms by which alterations in the microbiome contribute to these conditions. Recent research has focused on the effects of the microbiome on lipid metabolism and the development of strategies to modify the microbiome to reverse metabolic alterations. These approaches have shown promise in mouse models of obesity and metabolic disorders and hold potential for translating to human applications to improve metabolic health.

Characteristics of the Gut Microbiota and Metabolism in Patients With Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults: A Case-Control Study

Yuanyuan Fang et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota and metabolites in patients with LADA show distinct characteristics compared to healthy individuals and patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, with a severe deficiency of short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria. The gut microbiota structure of patients with LADA is more similar to patients with type 1 diabetes who are positive for GAD antibody.

Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharide partly replaces acarbose against type 2 diabetes in rats

Zhao-Rong Li et al.

Summary: The study showed that co-administration of Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharide (SFP) with low-dose acarbose had better antidiabetic effects in rats compared to single acarbose treatment, improving insulin resistance, mitigating kidney injuries, activating the IRS/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, and restraining liver fat accumulation. Additionally, the combination treatment significantly restored beneficial gut flora composition in diabetic rats.
