Preparation and characterization of activated carbon from coal by chemical activation with KOH

Arshad Hussain Wazir et al.

Summary: In this study, activated carbons were produced from coal using potassium hydroxide as a chemical-activating agent. The effects of different activation temperatures and KOH to coal ratios on the porous structure of the products were examined. The results showed that the surface area and pore volume of the activated carbons increased with increasing temperature.

Storage and separation of methane and carbon dioxide using platinum- decorated activated carbons treated with ammonia

Mohamed F. Aly Aboud et al.

Summary: By nitrogen doping with ammonia treatment and platinum nanoparticle decoration, the methane and carbon dioxide storage capacities of activated carbon were enhanced, with a preference for CO2 storage. Nitrogen doping improved micropore properties, while platinum decoration had an opposite effect on gas storage.

Sustainable Ammonia Production Processes

Seyedehhoma Ghavam et al.

Summary: Recent studies have focused on finding environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and economically viable production processes for ammonia synthesis due to its importance in agriculture and potential as an energy carrier. However, the commonly used Haber-Bosch process for ammonia production has high greenhouse gas emissions and energy usage. Sustainable hydrogen production methods like water electrolysis coupled with renewable technologies are being explored, but they require large amounts of pretreated water. A comparative life cycle assessment of various ammonia production methods shows that significant GHG emissions or high volumes of water are still present in these technologies.

Sewage Sludge Derived Materials for CO2 Adsorption

Marius Gheorghe Miricioiu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of sewage-sludge-derived materials for CO2 adsorption, with promising results in terms of adsorption capacity. The materials were structurally and texturally characterized, and the efficiency of CO2 adsorption was evaluated using a homemade system coupled with a gas chromatograph. The study concluded that the sewage sludge derived material could be a promising solution for CO2 reduction and waste disposal.

Hydrogen Storage in Untreated/Ammonia-Treated and Transition Metal-Decorated (Pt, Pd, Ni, Rh, Ir and Ru) Activated Carbons

Mohamed F. Aly Aboud et al.

Summary: The research focused on improving hydrogen storage performance of activated carbon through methods like ammonia treatment and metal decoration. It was found that metal decoration had different effects on hydrogen storage at different temperatures, potentially overcoming hydrogen spillover at low temperatures but having the opposite effect at room temperature.
