Employing gene chip technology for monitoring and assessing soil heavy metal pollution

ZiChun Lu et al.

Summary: Soil heavy metals pollution is a complex process that causes serious environmental problems. Gene chip technology is an effective method for evaluating and predicting the levels of heavy metal pollution in soil. This paper systematically analyzes previous studies on soil heavy metals pollution using gene chip technology and introduces the latest gene chip technologies and applications.

Oral Microbiome: Streptococcus mutans/Caries Concordant-Discordant Children

Marcia Dinis et al.

Summary: Dental caries is the most common chronic disease in children, and the role of Streptococcus mutans in its development is still not fully understood. This study explored the correlation between S. mutans levels and other microorganisms in the saliva of caries-concordant and discordant populations. The results showed that the salivary microbial communities clustered based on S. mutans levels and were independent of caries experience. Disease-associated species were increased in populations with high S. mutans levels, while health-associated species were more abundant in populations with low S. mutans levels. The study highlights the importance of considering additional microbial markers in conjunction with S. mutans for the diagnosis and management of dental caries in the discordant population.

Dental plaque microbiota profiles of children with caries-free and caries-active dentition

Muawia A. Qudeimat et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the bacterial community composition in caries-active and caries-free children using next generation sequencing techniques. While diversity indices did not find differences between the groups, comparative analysis at the species level revealed specific bacteria that were significantly more abundant in caries-active children. The predominance of certain species in caries-free children warrants further research into their potential role in a health-associated microbial community.

Casein phosphopeptide?amorphous calcium phosphate fluoride treatment enriches the symbiotic dental plaque microbiome in children

Armelia Sari Widyarman et al.

Summary: The study showed that the CPP-ACP/F treatment modulated the dysbiotic oral microbiome towards a healthier state, increasing the abundance of certain microbial protective species. Although the overall community structure in children with caries was relatively uniform, there were significant differences in bacterial species before and after treatment. Three bacterial species were found to be strongly sensitive to the CPP-ACP/F treatment, indicating potential clinical significance of this varnish treatment in modulating the dental plaque microbiome.
