Highly metallic Co-doped MoS2 nanosheets as an efficient cocatalyst to boost photoredox dual reaction for H2 production and benzyl alcohol oxidation

Yue Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new type of cocatalyst with high photocatalytic activity was developed by embedding cobalt-doped MoS2 nanosheets onto 2D g-C3N4 nanosheets, which showed efficient benzaldehyde and H-2 generation rates. The enhanced photocatalytic performance was attributed to the metallic characteristics, lower H* adsorption, and active sites of the cobalt-doped MoS2 cocatalyst, as well as the rapid charge transfer facilitated by the 2D/2D ohmic-junction with a chemical linkage formed between the cocatalyst and CN nanosheets.

Construction of SnO2/g-C3N4 composite photocatalyst with enhanced interfacial charge separation and high efficiency for hydrogen production and Rhodamine B degradation

Mohammed Ismael et al.

Summary: SnO2/g-C3N4 heterostructure composites exhibit significantly improved photocatalytic activity compared to individual SnO2 and g-C3N4 materials. The composites are characterized by the distribution of SnO2 nanoparticles on the surface of g-C3N4 sheets, forming a heterojunction structure. The UV-Vis experiments show a reduced optical band gap energy. The photoelectrochemical tests demonstrate enhanced charge separation between electrons and holes, resulting in improved photoactivity. The optimal SnO2 content is determined to be 20%, showing 5 and 8 times higher photocatalytic activity than pure SnO2 for degradation of Rhodamine B and hydrogen production, respectively.
