Antiphospholipid syndrome-mediated acute cerebrovascular diseases and long-term outcomes

Miguel Garcia-Grimshaw et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the spectrum of acute cerebrovascular disease among patients with APS, their differences between stroke subtypes, and long-term functional outcomes. The findings showed no differences between stroke subtypes and APS types. Antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) profiles were not associated with any of the acute cerebrovascular diseases described. Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) may be an initial thrombotic manifestation of APS with low mortality and good long-term functional outcome.

Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Management of Obstetric Antiphospholipid Syndrome: A Comprehensive Review

Jaume Alijotas-Reig et al.

Summary: Antiphospholipid syndrome is an autoimmune disorder characterized by vascular thrombosis and/or pregnancy morbidity associated with persistent antiphospholipid antibody positivity. Inflammatory and thrombotic mechanisms play a role in its pathophysiology. The standard-of-care treatment is low-dose aspirin and prophylactic low molecular weight heparin, with additional medications considered for refractory cases.

Summary: The epidemiology of antiphospholipid syndrome remains poorly understood, with limited population-based studies available. More research is needed to understand the prevalence and incidence of APS among diverse populations.

Non-organ-specific autoimmunity in adult 47,XXY Klinefelter patients and higher-grade X-chromosome aneuploidies

Francesca Panimolle et al.

Summary: This study found significantly higher levels of non-organ-specific autoantibodies in patients with Klinefelter's syndrome compared to controls, while no such antibodies were detected in patients with rare higher-grade sex chromosome aneuploidies. This suggests that Klinefelter's syndrome and higher-grade sex chromosome aneuploidies should be considered as separate conditions.
