Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: The Crosslink among Inflammation, Nitroxidative Stress, Intestinal Microbiota and Alternative Therapies

Elaine Luiza Santos Soares de Mendonca et al.

Summary: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a metabolic complication arising from adaptive failures to the pregnancy period. Inflammation, oxidative stress, and the gut microbiota play a role in its development. Modulating the gut microbiota and using natural products may alleviate the disease.

Miscarriage matters: the epidemiological, physical, psychological, and economic costs of early pregnancy loss

Siobhan Quenby et al.

Summary: Miscarriage, characterized by the loss of a pregnancy before viability, has a significant global impact with a high occurrence rate and various risk factors. It can result in both physical and psychological consequences for individuals, highlighting the importance of providing mental health support and specialized obstetric care for women who have experienced miscarriage.

SAA1 regulates pro-labour mediators in term labour by activating YAP pathway

Yanmin Jiang et al.

Summary: Term labour is associated with increased expression of SAA1 in the human myometrium, which can be further induced by pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1 beta and TNF-alpha. Knockdown of SAA1 leads to reduced expression and secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators and contraction-associated factors. Mechanistically, SAA1 functions through activation of the YAP pathway, providing a novel understanding of the molecular mechanism of labour onset.

Serum Amyloid A1 Induces Classically Activated Macrophages: A Role for Enhanced Fibril Formation

Ann-Kathrin Gaiser et al.

Summary: AA amyloidosis is a type of amyloid disease that is associated with various chronic inflammatory conditions. The disease is characterized by the deposition of amyloid fibrils formed by serum amyloid A1 (SAA1), leading to organ failure. Research suggests that SAA1 affects macrophage phenotype and function, with potential implications for intervention strategies in AA amyloidosis utilizing M1-polarized macrophages.

C/EBPδ drives key endocrine signals in the human amnion at parturition

Jiang-Wen Lu et al.

Summary: The transcription factor C/EBPδ plays a critical role in inducing the expression of COX-2 and 11β-HSD1 in human amnion fibroblasts, ensuring their production for labor onset. The abundance of C/EBPδ in the amnion increases at term and further at parturition, with knockout of C/EBPδ in mice delaying the onset of labor. These findings suggest that the C/EBPδ pathway may serve as a potential pharmaceutical target for the treatment of pre-term labor.
