Hierarchical porous boron nitride with boron vacancies for improved adsorption performance to antibiotics

Yanhong Chao et al.

Summary: The hierarchical porous boron nitride nanosheets with boron vacancies (Bv-BNNSs) were synthesized via a one-step ZnCl2-assisted strategy, resulting in controllable tuning of morphological and electronic structures and a specific surface area as high as 1104 m(2)/g. The sorption capacity was boosted by 38% due to the pi-pi interaction mechanism. DFT calculations verified the enhanced interaction energy between Bv-BNNSs and tetracycline, indicating great potential in practical wastewater treatment.

B12N12 nanocages with homonuclear bonds as a promising material in the removal/degradation of the insecticide imidacloprid

L. Palomino-Asencio et al.

Summary: The study proposes a method for capturing/degrading the insecticide imidacloprid using B12N12 nanocages with different numbers of homonuclear bonds, and analyzes their interactions and electronic properties through Density Functional Theory calculations. It is found that the nanocages can efficiently capture the insecticide through chemisorption, and provide a new way to degrade imidacloprid. Additionally, the nanocages have high polarity and adsorption capacity, making them suitable for removing the insecticide.
