Adsorption of Sodium Diclofenac in Functionalized Palygoskite Clays

Matheus Urtiga Sousa et al.

Summary: The effects of acid and organo-functionalizations on the surface of Brazilian palygorskite clay and its potential for adsorbing the drug sodium diclofenac in wastewaters were investigated. The modifications on the clay structure were analyzed, and the best conditions for adsorption tests were determined. The results showed that the adsorption behavior was likely due to chemisorption, and the Langmuir model adequately described the adsorption isotherms for both acid and organo-functionalized samples. The study concluded that Brazilian palygorskite clay was a suitable adsorbent for removing sodium diclofenac.

Surface Modification of Attapulgite by Grafting Cationic Polymers for Treating Dye Wastewaters

Huan Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, cationic polymer poly-epichlorohydrin-dimethylamine was successfully immobilized on natural attapulgite to enhance dye adsorption capacities, particularly for anionic dyes. The modified attapulgite displayed high adsorption capacities for anionic dyes, with the potential to completely remove reactive dyes from effluents in column operation modes. The treatment capacities of the cation-modified attapulgite were more than three times larger than those of activated carbon, demonstrating its potential for effectively treating dye wastewaters.
