Study on adsorption of Cu2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+ by the KMnO4 modified biochar derived from walnut shell

S. Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, KMnO4 modified biochar was used to adsorb Cu2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+ from mono-metal and multi-metal solutions. The modified biochar showed higher specific area and pore volume compared to pristine biochar, and it could adsorb metals by forming complexes with surface functional groups.

Removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions by X-type zeolite prepared from combination of oil shale ash and coal fly ash

Shuxia Bai et al.

Summary: This paper synthesized zeolite from a combination of oil shale ash and coal fly ash, and used it to remove heavy metals from aqueous solution. The structural characterization of the product was done through XRD and SEM, which proved that the ashes can be converted into zeolite. The adsorption performance of the synthetic zeolite for heavy metals was evaluated through batch experiments. The results showed that the adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics model and the Langmuir isotherm model described the isotherm data well. Based on equilibrium studies, the selectivity sequence for heavy metal adsorption was determined. XPS results indicated that the mechanism of heavy metal removal by the synthetic zeolite was ion exchange.

Excellent adsorption performance and capacity of modified layered ITQ-2 zeolites for elemental mercury removal and recycling from flue gas

Yongpeng Ma et al.

Summary: Adsorption is an effective method for removing and recycling high concentration of mercury from nonferrous metal smelting flue gas, especially with adsorbents like Mn/ITQ-2 zeolite which have large specific surface area and good Hg-0 removal efficiency. The study also found that Co-Mn/ITQ-2 zeolites exhibit high SO2 resistance performance and excellent regenerability, making them a promising option for mercury recycling from flue gas.

Revealing the adsorption mechanism of copper on hemp-based materials through EDX, nano-CT, XPS, FTIR, Raman, and XANES characterization techniques

Chiara Mongiovi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the adsorption mechanism of copper onto materials prepared from hemp shives, revealing different mechanisms for materials activated with sodium carbonate and grafted with poly-carboxylic agents. Surface adsorption and diffusion were predominant for sodium carbonate-activated materials, while chemisorption and ion-exchange were observed for poly-carboxylic agent-grafted materials.

Metallic ions recovery from membrane separation processes concentrate: A special look onto ion exchange resins

Yuri Abner Rocha Lebron et al.

Summary: The text discusses the development of treatments for water reuse and by-products recovery in the face of future water scarcity and mineral resources exhaustion. Membrane separation processes are effective for wastewater treatment at reuse level, but their concentrate can pose environmental challenges. However, the concentrate from mining wastewater treatment can be an opportunity for by-products recovery through ion exchange resins.

Synthesis of zeolite-carbon composites using high-carbon fly ash and their adsorption abilities towards petroleum substances

Lidia Bandura et al.

Summary: High-carbon fly ash was used to produce zeolite-carbon composites, which exhibited excellent adsorption performance for petroleum substances removal. The composites showed well-defined zeolite crystals formed onto carbonaceous surface and higher specific surface area compared to fly ash, leading to a higher sorption capacity towards oils.
