Effect of Up-Converting Luminescent Nanoparticles with Increased Quantum Yield Incorporated into the Fluoropolymer Matrix on Solanum lycopersicum Growth

Denis V. Yanykin et al.

Summary: The study found that using glasses coated with up-converting luminescent nanoparticles for tomato cultivation can promote plant adaptation to ultraviolet radiation and accelerate the recovery time of photosynthesis. It also increases the leaf number, total leaf area, stem length, and chlorophyll content in plants.

Synthesis of SrF2:Yb:Er ceramic precursor powder by co-precipitation from aqueous solution with different fluorinating media: NaF, KF and NH4F

Yu A. Ermakova et al.

Summary: The major challenge in optical ceramic technology lies in the quality of the starting precursor powder, which plays a key role in the optical ceramic industry. The estimation of the quantum yield of up-conversion luminescence provides a helpful technique for evaluating powder quality, and thus precursor powders must have high up-conversion luminescence efficiency. By co-precipitation from aqueous solutions using sodium fluoride, potassium fluoride, and ammonium fluoride as fluorinating agents, single-phase solid solutions based on strontium fluoride doped with ytterbium and erbium were synthesized. The introduction of sodium and potassium improved the sintering ability of particles and increased the particle size in ceramics, and the quantum yield values of up-conversion luminescence were very high.

One-Step Synthesis of Eu3+-Modified Cellulose Acetate Film and Light Conversion Mechanism

Zhihui Zhang et al.

Summary: A CA-Eu(III) complex was synthesized through coordination reaction of cellulose acetate (CA) and Eu3+, which was further doped with Tb(III) to enhance Eu3+ luminescence and functionalize the CA film. The best fluorescence performance was achieved at a CA: Eu3+ ratio of 3:1 with a reaction time of 65 min. The light conversion film showed high transparency, tensile strength, and flexibility, converting harmful UV light to beneficial red light for photosynthesis in plants.

Cultivation of Solanum lycopersicum under Glass Coated with Nanosized Upconversion Luminophore

Dmitry E. Burmistrov et al.

Summary: Coating glass with upconverting luminescent nanoparticles can increase the productivity of Solanum lycopersicum, accelerate plant adaptation to ultraviolet radiation, increase total leaf area and chlorophyll content, and enhance the efficiency of absorbed light energy utilization. The spectral changes induced by photoconversion glass can help plants adapt to the appearance of ultraviolet radiation more effectively.

Persistent luminescence nanoparticles for cancer theranostics application

Nian Liu et al.

Summary: PLNPs are unique optical materials that emit afterglow luminescence after ceasing excitation, making them ideal for in vivo optical imaging of tumors. They have advantages such as autofluorescence-free, high sensitivity, high penetration depth, and multiple excitation sources. Furthermore, they are widely used in cancer theranostics applications, including fluorescence-guided surgery, photothermal therapy, photodynamic therapy, drug/gene delivery, and combined therapy.

Surface Photoluminescence of Oxidized Nanodiamonds: Influence of Environment pH

Alexey M. Vervald et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of environmental pH on the surface photoluminescence of oxidized NDs of various syntheses and surface treatments, showing that the PL of NDs varies with pH in specific ranges. The changes in NDs' PL are attributed to the (de)protonation of surface groups, carboxyl at pH 2-5 and hydroxyl at pH 9-12.5, indicating the potential for tuning NDs' surface photoluminescence beyond surface group control.

Ekaterina Sukhova et al.

Summary: Electrical signals in plants play a role in inducing various physiological processes, including cell death through mechanisms such as ROS waves, inactivation of photosynthesis, activation of respiration, synthesis of stress phytohormones, and potassium efflux. Further investigations are needed to explore the connection between electrical signals and cell death in plants.

An up-conversion luminophore with high quantum yield and brightness based on BaF2:Yb3+,Er3+ single crystals

Eduard Madirov et al.

Summary: The study synthesized two series of co-doped BaF2 single crystals, achieving the design of UC systems with high quantum yield by adjusting the concentrations of Yb3+ and Er3+ dopants. Experimental results indicate strong quenching of the S-4(3/2) state compared to the Judd-Ofelt theory, and a significant contribution of the Er3+:I-4(9/2) excited state to both UC and down-shifting luminescent processes.
