On the layerwise finite element formulation for static and free vibration analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates

Hicham Hirane et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel finite element model for the analysis of static and free vibration of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates, with a computationally efficient element developed for the model. The results indicate promising accuracy and convergence rate for thin and thick FGM sandwich plates.

Finite element analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates with porosity via a new hyperbolic shear deformation theory

Pham Van Vinh et al.

Summary: This study establishes a finite element model based on a new hyperbolic sheareformation theory to investigate the static bending, free vibration, and buckling of functionally graded sandwich plates with porosity. The results show that the distribution of porosity plays a significant role in the mechanical behavior of functionally graded sandwich plates.

The role of spatial variation of the nonlocal parameter on the free vibration of functionally graded sandwich nanoplates

Pham Van Vinh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of the spatial variation of nonlocal parameters on the free vibration of functionally graded sandwich nanoplates. By modifying classical nonlocal elasticity theory, the research highlights the importance of considering the dependency of nonlocal parameters on material variations through the thickness of the nanoplates. Numerical results confirm the significant role of nonlocal parameter variations in the free vibration of functionally graded sandwich nanoplates, providing insights not previously explored in literature.

Analysis of bi-directional functionally graded sandwich plates via higher-order shear deformation theory and finite element method

Pham Van Vinh

Summary: This paper presents a comprehensive investigation of bi-directional functionally graded sandwich plates using higher-order shear deformation theory and finite element method for the first time. The results indicate that the variation in material ingredients and properties, as well as the thickness ratio of layers, significantly affect the behavior of these plates.

Nonlocal vibration of functionally graded nanoplates using a layerwise theory

Mohamed-Ouejdi Belarbi et al.

Summary: This work studies the size-dependent free vibration response of functionally graded nanoplates using a layerwise theory. The proposed model has a fixed number of variables and adopts the nonlocal elasticity theory to capture the small size effects. The developed finite element model has been demonstrated to be robust and reliable, and a detailed parametric analysis has been conducted.

Bending and free vibration analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates: An assessment of the Refined Zigzag Theory

Marco Di Sciuva et al.

Summary: This paper numerically evaluates the performance of the Refined Zigzag Theory in analyzing functionally graded material plates, comparing it with various other theories. The results show that the Refined Zigzag Theory generally predicts the global and local response of functionally graded material sandwich plates more accurately than other theories.

Hierarchic models for the free vibration analysis of functionally gradient plates

Jin-Rae Cho

Summary: Hierarchic models for the modal analyses of ceramic-metal functional gradient (FG) plates are introduced in this study. The models include classical theories ranging from the first order to 3D full elasticity, and they are numerically implemented by discretizing only the mid-surface of 3D structures. The modal characteristics of FG plates are parametrically examined, showing a sequence of model accuracy dependent on the volume fraction pattern and relative thickness ratio of gradient layer.
